Amidst her second appearance at the Met Gala 2024, Bollywood star Alia Bhatt finds herself at the center of a deepfake controversy yet again. A video circulating on social media platforms depicts Alia’s face seamlessly transposed onto actress Wamiqa Gabbi’s face, sparking outrage and concerns over the misuse of digital manipulation technology.
The original video, shared by Wamiqa Gabbi on her official Instagram account a few days ago, showcased the actress elegantly flaunting a red saree at the screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest Netflix series ‘Heeramandi’. Interestingly, the event was also attended by Alia Bhatt.
This isn’t the first time Alia has fallen prey to deepfake manipulation. Previously, a morphed video of her went viral, featuring not only her face but also her voice and gestures accurately copied. In that video, she can be seen in a floral co-ord set, making gestures to the camera while sitting on the bed.
Other actresses like Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, and Kajol have also faced deepfake controversies. These incidents underscore the growing threat posed by deepfake technology, capable of creating highly realistic yet entirely fabricated videos.
Meanwhile, Alia is currently in New York for her second appearance at the Met Gala 2024. Celebrating “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, she stunned in a mint green Sabyasachi saree.
