As air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR) continues to deteriorate, district authorities in Noida, Greater Noida, and Gurugram have extended permission for schools to conduct hybrid classes, both online and offline, for students up to Class 5. The directive comes in response to the latest guidelines issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), which has been closely monitoring pollution levels across the region.

The Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram confirmed that all schools in the district will adopt the hybrid learning model for early graders until further orders. This measure aims to protect the health of young children, who are more vulnerable to respiratory ailments triggered by severe air pollution. Schools have been instructed to ensure seamless online access to lessons, assignments, and attendance for families who choose to keep children at home due to health concerns.

Authorities in Noida and Greater Noida have issued similar orders, urging schools to prioritise student safety without compromising the academic calendar. The hybrid arrangement provides flexibility for parents while ensuring that learning continues despite the hazardous air quality index (AQI) levels recorded throughout the week.

School administrations across NCR have welcomed the move but highlighted the need for clear communication and adequate digital infrastructure to support blended learning. Many institutions have already begun sharing updated schedules, parent advisories, and platform details to facilitate smooth implementation.

Experts have cautioned that prolonged exposure to toxic air can lead to long-term health complications in children, including asthma, bronchitis, and reduced lung function. In this context, hybrid schooling is being viewed as a necessary precaution during the pollution emergency that typically affects the region every winter.

Authorities will review the situation periodically and decide on the continuation or withdrawal of the hybrid model based on improvements in air quality.
